People sometimes wonder where I find some of the songs I do. Sometimes, I read about a song or someone mentions one, so I then get a copy and listen to it. If I'm impressed, I usually get the whole album then. If I actually hear a song, I will usually just get the whole album right off the bat. Either way, I then listen to the whole album on my Shuffle. If I'm happy with the album, I'll get the artist's other albums. If I'm not, I just keep the one around. This next artist/group is one that impressed me.

Rascal Flatts is a country band whose songs range from very uplifting to downright depressing, depending on your mood. There is a very subtle Christian undertone to some of their songs He Ain't the Leaving Kind. While I had heard their songs before, without knowing who it was, I was flipping through the channels sometime last month, and caught them performing a song called "My Wish" on the CMA's (Country Music Awards). It's a song about someone's wishes for someone who left them, and someone they still care deeply about. The song really hit a chord with me at the time, because it's how I felt about someone, so I got the rest of the album called "Me and My Gang", and was blown away when I listened to it. It is a well-rounded album that I would recommend to everyone. The songs are very deep, and soulful. They cover the gambit from comedy, "Backwards" to growing old, "Ellsworth", to love & loss, "Pieces" and "What Hurts the Most".

Their other albums, "Feels Like Today" and "Melt" also cover a variety of subjects. Feels Like Today is almost the opposite of Me and My Gang in that the songs are very positive on love such as "Bless the Broken Road" and "The Day Before You" (both good choices for first dances at weddings). "Holes" is about the only lost love song on the album. The track that got to me the most was "Skin" which is the story of a young girl who finds out she has cancer.

That's this weeks spotlight artist. Hope you all enjoy.

OK, I like most country music. But I think it's under rated by most people. Well, not most people, just most people who don't live in the Midwest. So this is my Public Service Announcement.

I think y'all need to check out some country music. I was watching CMT (Country Music Television) tonight on the couch with the kids, and they had a special on the top 100 Country Music videos. There were some great videos on there. I think it was shot a few years back, because there wasn't much newer stuff. But they some great artists featured in videos and in person.

An artist I would recommend to everyone is Cledus T. Judd, who is this great comedy singer. He's almost the Weird Al of country. I got hooked on him when I heard his song 1-900-Sheila, which is about his adventures with female companionship telephone services. He sings a great serious song called "Funny Man", which is about himself. I would almost call it a tragic clown story, sung by the clown, if that makes sense. It's one of the songs I keep on my iPod all of the time, because it's such a good all around song that's both uplifting and depressing, but not in that order.

OK, that's my pick for the week. If anyone out there wants to hear the songs featured in today's post, either contact me, and I will find you a copy, or go down to your local record store and pick up a copy.

Otherwise, everyone stay safe.
